Villages in Aceh Harm Use of Wifi in Public Places

Rakyat Utama. A village in Aceh Province issued a decree forbidding the use of wireless networks (WiFi) because it was considered to be misused by students in the region.

The village that forbids WiFi is Curee Baroh, Simpang Mamplam District, Bireuen Regency. The appeal was issued after consultation with all local village officials held on Tuesday (11/13).

In the appeal of the results of the meeting it was stated, the reason for the ban was because of the large number of coffee shops in the local village that provided free WiFi facilities. This has resulted in the rollicking of minors hanging out in coffee shops to surf in cyberspace.

The children are also known to access various pornographic content in the activity.

"Considering the consequences caused by WiFi networks that damage the younger generation, especially underage children, because WiFi is now very rampant, so this is in accordance with the results of the meeting's decision that all WiFi network owners in Curee Baroh Village must be disabled / stopped immediately, "said the plea.

Geuchik (Village Head) Curee Baroh, Helmiadi Mukhtaruddin when confirmed CNNIndonesia.com explained that the ban only applies to public places such as coffee shops. However, it does not apply to WiFi usage in private homes.

"Because remembering WiFi is indeed very beneficial for people who understand about the use of WiFi. But for children who are still in elementary, junior high, high school are not controlled by them," Helmiadi said on Friday (11/23).

Helmiadi explained that currently in his area there are six coffee shops that provide free WiFi facilities.

Starting from the Complaints of the Management of the Study Center

Before issuing the appeal, Helmiadi said that the village apparatus had received a number of complaints from the management of the study center who found children skipping the hours of the Koran to hang out in coffee shops.

Based on search results, it also found children's activities to access pornographic content.

"He said he went home from the Koran, but it turned out to be truant," he said.

Before the appeal was signed, the village first showed the results of the meeting to the sub-district head, sub-district police chief, head of the religious affairs office (KUA), and the Koramil.

"They support our policies," Helmiadi said.

According to Helmiadi, if after the appeal was issued it was not heeded, he would take legal action by reporting to the Muspika.

"Related to the sentence will be decided by the Muspika. But if muspika is not able to impose sanctions, then we will impose sanctions," Helmiadi said.
